1. Choose toilet paper made from 100% recycled fibers. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, if every household in the U.S. replaced one roll of virgin fiber toilet paper with 100% recycled ones, we'd save 423,900 trees.

2. Wash only full loads in the laundry machine and dishwasher.

3. kip the dryer and hang your clothes on a clothesline or drying rack to save both energy and wear and tear on fabrics.

4. If it's sunny outside, be sure to open your blinds to get the full benefit of the most energy-efficient source of light.

5. Shop at and donate goods to Salvation Army and Goodwill thrift stores, or through online sites such as eBay, craigslist, and freecycle. Buying pre-owned merchandise saves resources.
