I picked this quote because it's the one that spoke to me the most. I was surprised to learn that this was a quote by Anne Frank. Finding out that it was by her, it made the statement ten times more powerful because it's show that teenagers have minds too! We're mature! We have constructive, inspirational things to say.

5. when people challenge me when they know I'm right.

1.Who is Langston Hughes writing this poem for?Langston Hughes was writing this poem for all the people of America. He touched on racism, directed the topic towards white.
2. Why was "America never America" to the poet?
Because everybody wasn't being treated the same . Blacks and whites weren't equal, and blacks were limited to certain things.

The video that I watched today about Haiti was very sad . It's a shame what happened to them but I feel as though, our country isn't in the right condition to be giving millions of dollars to other countries when we have problems of our own. We're in a recession and there are people still suffering from Hurricane Karina! Sooner or later, we're going to be just as poor as Haiti ...and then what? Don't mean to sound selfish or anything but if the tables were turned, would Haiti have helped us ?

In the first semester, one of the obstacles I faced was procrastinating . Last year, I was more focused on my school work because I didn't have as many problems in my personal life as I have now.
This semester, I plan to be more focused on my school work and put my other priorities after school work. I also plan to focus more on subjects that I have less interest in because that'll make me succeed in that subject (geometry).
I don't like anything about computers . . . they make life much easier !

Gold-Script (Mierra nd Jazz)
1st scene
(The setting is in a living room with Grandma and Jazzmon. Jazzmon is sitting in a chair on the other side of the room, while reading a book)
Grandma: Okay, Jazzmon it's time to go to bed.
(Jazzmon looks up from the book)
Jazzmon: Grandma, what happens when we die?
(Grandma giggles)
Grandma: ooh baby, we all go to either one or two places...hopefully our souls will be excepted into the underworld.
Jazzmon: And what is that Grandma? What is that? (with concern)
Grandma: I'll tell you what, I'll let you go to bed thirty minutes late just because I wanna tell you a short story.
Jazzmon: About what? (with concern)
Grandma: The story about the twin souls, Osiris and Re. (African drums begin) They were Egyptian gods that were highly respected. Osiris, the god of the underworld believed that if your heart was heavy with guilt, you were guilty of a crime or sin and therefore couldn't make it to the underworld. And Re was the sun god and the protector of the underworld. He stopped demonic souls from going into the underworld...And together, they replenished each other's life sources.
Last scene
Grandma: So baby, the moral of the story is to live your life as positive as you can. And remember, no matter how far you've traveled down that bad road, you can always turn back. But whatever negative things you decide to do, just remember all those will meet up with you when it's time to cross over...And from that, It'll be determined where you'll spend your afterlife.
Jazzmon: You know Grandma, I learned alot about life from that short story and from now on, Imma live ma life to the fullest and try to be as legit and wholesome as I can!
(They both laugh)

Tupac Shakur has proven to the world- specifically the low class society, that he was for the people and not against them.
Tupac's family backround and the era in whic he grew up in created what would be known to the world as the most contoversial artist within the hip-hop industry. This helped him craft music that was politically and socially aware.
It was through his music, that Tupac opened the eyes of middle and high class society to the reality of black America. From poverty to war against the streets, he showed that many people in the ghetto weren't living the American dream that the media portrayed.
Tupac Shakur, was one of the few artist that made sure he based most of his music on thegeneral issues in a black man's life (?)
He was actually drawing attention to matters that they just wanted society to forget about.

This organization was known to the world as the black panthers. His mother was the main influence in his life, which is why his music was so political.

80's: During this decade, the country experienced social, economic and general upheaval as wealthy production and western culture migrated to new industrializing economies. (*more poverty discussion*)
He began studying the works of William Shakespeare and Nicololo Machiavelli.
After the tragic loss of his friend, he became inspired to write rap music. - Tupac found himslef at an emerging crossroads in his life. His frustrations of poverty were being compared with the wealth of knowledge and stuff he saw everyday.
His frustrations began to mount with his perceived responsibility of being the man of the house and his urge to write grew more and more.
As writing evolved into a deeper way of expression for Tupac, felt more comfortable saying what he felt through poetry and music, instead of actually stating it.
Tupac leanred that his mother had become addicted to crack cocaine. This had a profound effect on Tupac both personally. His lyrics suddenly transformed from comical to serious.
Tupac's first solo album was "2pacalypse Now". The album's name was derived from the 1979 film "Apocalypse Now," which was about the Vietnam war.
The album focused on issues such as police brutality, poverty, teenage pregnancy and drug use, some issues giving a lyrical glimpse into the world of a young black person on the urban streets of america.
